Episode Notes

This video breaks down the full history behind Huy Fong Foods and Underwood Ranches and how their thirty year partnership shaped the modern sriracha world. Sriracha sauce began in Thailand in the town of Si Racha, where families created the original chili garlic recipes. When David Tran moved to the United States, he made his own version and launched Huy Fong Sriracha in 1980. It grew from a local favorite in Asian markets to a major retail product throughout the 1980s. The long partnership between Huy Fong and Underwood Ranches supplied nearly all of the red jalapeños used in the sauce. Their relationship collapsed in 2016 which resulted in a major lawsuit. A jury later ruled in favor of Underwood Ranches. The verdict reshaped both companies and helped explain the sriracha shortages that followed. Underwood Ranches responded by creating their own sriracha style sauce in 2017 and expanding it into retail by 2019. In this video I compare the two sauces side by side and talk about how each one tastes, how they differ, and why the breakup continues to affect hot sauce fans today. ---- Follow on IG 📸: fire.and.flavor 🔥 If you love hot sauce then subscribe & turn up the heat! 🔥 Available on all major streaming platforms! 🎧 #hotsauce #spicy #foodie #hotsaucelover
