The Story Behind the Show

About Fire & Flavor

A hot sauce podcast born from an unexpected dream, built around curiosity, honest tasting, and a desire to give small makers room to tell their stories.

January 2025

It started while I was stuck on bedrest.

The idea for Fire & Flavor came to me in January 2025 while I was recovering from a minor surgery. I had become incredibly bored during that time, and one night I had a dream about podcasts and having a successful show about hot sauce. I am still not completely sure why.

I had never spent much time listening to podcasts. I would occasionally listen when I found something interesting, but I watched far more YouTube, especially commentary videos and food reviews. When I woke up, though, I had it in my head that I wanted to create a hot sauce podcast.

I had tried to start my own hot sauce company in 2020, but it was not going to work out. I did not have the funding, a business relationship crumbled, and New Hampshire presented more legal hurdles than I could reasonably work through at the time. There was no clear path forward.

With the knowledge I had already built, I realized I could still carve out a small place in the community, even if I was not making sauce yet. The original idea was to interview local companies from New Hampshire and use the show to highlight the people behind these small businesses.

As more guests came on, the reach quickly expanded nationwide. I began reviewing products on their own, and sometimes with food, while continuing to have casual conversations with makers and creators. Every episode is another chance to improve. I want viewers to have an engaging experience and something that feels thoughtful to look at while they watch.

What Guides the Show

The Fire & Flavor Philosophy

Respect the work, stay curious, and give every bottle the chance to show what it can do.

Flavor Comes First

Heat matters, but it is always secondary. A great sauce should bring something meaningful to the food and remain enjoyable beyond the initial burn.

No Bad Sauce

I believe there may not be a truly bad sauce. Sometimes I simply have not found the right way to use it yet, which is why food pairings matter.

Spoon and Plate

I taste products by the spoon to understand the full flavor, then try them with food when possible to see how the sauce changes in context.

The Conversation

How Interviews Work

The goal is to meet each guest where they are and give them room to talk about their history with spicy food, why they started, and what they experienced along the way.

Origins

How spicy food became part of the guest's life and what first pushed them toward creating something of their own.

Journey

The wins, setbacks, strange turns, and practical lessons that shaped the company or creative project.

Tasting

A real-time experience with the products, often guided by the person who knows the bottles best.

Platform

A chance for viewers to see the people behind sauces they already love, or discover a maker they have never encountered.

Transparency

Review and Sponsorship Disclosure

Some sauces and products featured on Fire & Flavor are provided at no cost by makers or brands. Complimentary products do not guarantee coverage or a positive review. Sponsored content will be identified clearly, and any affiliate relationship will be disclosed when it applies.

I approach every product with respect and honesty, focusing on flavor, heat, ingredients, texture, and the ways it may work best. I will never tear down a maker for entertainment, but I will always share my genuine experience and explain where I believe a product succeeds or how it might be used more effectively.
